  3. Pregame Warm-Up • Moving warm-up • Light jogging & plyometrics • Stretch • Throw • Pick offs • RHP – 2 of all 4 to 1st base & 2 of both to 2nd Base • LHP – 4 of both to 1st base & 2 of both to 2nd Base • Pitchouts – 2 to right & left handed batters

Bullpen • Exact number of pitches every time • Starters - ~30 pitches • Relievers - ~20 pitches • Follow [(2x)*n]+1 formula • x = number of pitches in your repertoire • n = number of sequences • Example1: Starter x = 4 pitches (2S-FB, 4S-FB, CH, SL) • 2x 2S-FB, 2x 4S-FB, 2x CH, 2x SL = 8 throws • End on 4S-FB • [(2x)*n]+1 = [(2*4)*4]+1 = 33pitches • Example2: Reliever x = 3 pitches (4S-FB, CH, CB) • 2x 4S-FB, 2x CH, 2x CB = 6 throws • End on 4S-FB • [(2x)*n]+1 = [(2*3)*3]+1 = 19pitches • Last ~6 pitches – Face a batter mentality

Pre-Inning • Exact number of pitches every time • Loosely follows [(1x)*n]+1 formula; ~5 pitches • Example1: x = 4 pitches (2S-FB, 4S-FB, CH, SL) • Full windup: 1x 2S-FB, 1x 4S-FB, 1x CH, 1x SL • Stretch: 1x 4S-FB • Example2: x = 3 pitches (4S-FB, CH, SL) • Full windup: 2x 4S-FB, 1x CH, 1x SL • Stretch: 1x 4S-FB • Last pitch is with runner on 1st mentality

  6. One Pitch (1/4) • Know YOUR one pitch routine • Example: • 1. Catch ball • 2. Walk to & toe the rubber • 3. Get sign • 4. Come set • 5. *Deep breath • 6. Lift leg • 7. Separate & land • 8. Rotate • 9. Chest extension • 10. Arm extension

  7. One Pitch (2/4) • Example1: If there are 10 steps in your routine and every step takes ~1 second and walking back takes ~3 seconds, then 1 pitch should take ~12 seconds.

  8. One Pitch (3/4) • Know YOUR tempo to complete 1 full pitch. • Should be around 12 seconds. Faster we lose control, slower defense falls asleep. • *Every pitcher must take a deep breath once they have come set, in both the full windup and stretch. • Visualize the last half of your next pitch during your breath.

  9. One Pitch (4/4) • A quality pitch includes 3 predetermined elements • Location • Velocity • Movement • * The darker the blue in the Venn Diagram, the better the pitch.

  10. Dugout • Know YOUR dugout routine, and make sure your teammates do too. • Communicate with catcher and Pitching Coach • Focus on controlled breathing • Focus on eye control • Visualize what we are going to execute in the next inning. Limit to one or two “microgoals,” that are in our control.

  11. Post-Outing • Conditioning routine • Right after game or bullpen • 8x Sprint(1/2), Jog(1/4), Walks(1/4) • Day before game or bullpen • 20x explosions – full speed then stop, less than 5 steps • 2 days before game or bullpen • 15x 60s & 3 sets of 20x jump-squats, 20x single leg touchdowns, and 20x “T” touches • Long-Toss till failure • 3 days before game or bullpen • 15 Stadium Climbers & Abs
