Digestive System
The digestive system plays a crucial role in breaking down food into nutrient molecules that our bodies can absorb. The process begins in the mouth where food is chewed and mixed with saliva for easier swallowing. It travels through the esophagus to the stomach, where it is stored and broken down further. Nutrients are extracted in the small intestines, while waste is prepared for elimination in the large intestines. The anus regulates the excretion of solid waste, completing the digestive journey. This overview highlights the importance of each digestive organ.

Digestive System • System to break down food • Food turns into molecule nutrients • Food particles smaller, distribute the nutrients around the body
Mouth • A way where food enters the body to start the digestive system. • Responsible to chew food into little pieces
Salivary Glands • Distributes saliva to the food for easy digestion • Moistens the food to be easily swallowed
Esophagus • A soft tube food goes through • A long path way for the food to the stomach
Stomach • Stores food that enters it • Food is broken down into smaller particles
Small Intestines • Distributes food to other parts of the body • Separates nutrients from waste
Large Intestines • Reabsorbs water to keep liquid parts of body balanced • Absorbs some vitamins • Takes the wastes to leave the body to the anus
Anus • Gate for solid waste to go through the rectum and out of the body • Opens, when waste are ready to leave the body
