Effective Diagnosis and Treatment of Tinea Capitis in a 7-Year-Old Girl
This case study presents a 7-year-old African American female with significant hair loss, scalp inflammation, and annular lesions. Symptoms included intense itching and the growth of lesions, prompting diagnostic tests including skin scrapings and a KOH examination. The results indicated the presence of ringworm (Tinea capitis) as the diagnosis. Treatment involves the primary use of Terbinafine, with alternatives such as Itraconazole or Fluconazole. Preventive measures include thorough cleaning of clothing and items, maintaining hygiene, and avoiding contact with infected individuals until fully treated.
