Background Information: Born: January 31, 1919 Where: Cairo, Georgia Was youngest of five children Middle name: Roosevelt in honor of Theodore Roosevelt Second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Moved to Pasadena, California, after his father left Was excluded from many fun activities As a result of this: -Joined a neighborhood gang -Later Carl Anderson, friend of Robinson, encouraged him to avoid the gang John Muir High School Was inspired to get involved in his talents by playing sports Received four varsity letters: -Basketball: guard -Baseball: shortstop and catcher -Track -Football: quarterback http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILIA20AqA5I
