  4. Overview • Based upon ‘turnitin.com’ by iParadigms • Comparison against: • Database of previously submitted • 5 billion web sites • Essays from cheat sites • Tutor accesses the results • Does not identify plagiarism – gives a coded originality report

  5. The Students • Students should be informed of the implications: • Processing their work on the system • Future use • Benefits • Specific permission form?

  6. Legal Requirements of Service • Data Controller • HEFCE • Use of Data • Identify areas of matching text between student and database • Data Protection Act / Freedom of Information

  7. Administration • Raising student awareness • Tutors register details online • Students register details online • Tutors then create ‘classes’ • Assignments are attached to ‘classes’ • Students then submit assignment online
