Are you ready to start an FFA alumni affiliate? • Are you a supporter of agriculture? • Are you a supporter of FFA? • Are you a parent or family member of someone in FFA? • Are you involved in your child’s FFA chapter? • Do you know other parents who are involved in your child’s FFA chapter? • Are you a former FFA member and wish to share your past FFA experiences? • Are you interested and excited about the success of FFA and your the agriculture education program in your community?

  3. Yes! Yes! Yes! • If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then you are in the right place! • Sit back and relax, during the next few minutes you will learn how beneficial it is to start a local FFA Alumni affiliate.

  4. An FFA Alumni affiliate is an organized group of individuals who promote the success and growth of their FFA Chapter, supports agricultural, agriculture education, and their community. Support and promote FFA, its activities and agricultural education on local, state, and national level. What is the purpose of an FFA Alumni affiliate?

  5. Who needs the FFA Alumni? • Agriculture teachers rely on FFA alumni members to help ease the outside commitments of teaching, bring more support to agricultural education programs and give teachers more freedom to do what they do best - teach kids! • FFA Chapters rely on alumni members for recruiting, scholarship money, aiding in camps, conferences, national FFA convention and other personal development programs.

  6. The great thing about a local FFA Alumni affiliate is; You decide how active you want to be! Chaperone chapter, district, state and national functions Organize a free meal for students, parents and alumni Assist with FFA fundraisers Raise money for an annual scholarship Sponsor an FFA member to attend national convention Assist with organizing the chapter banquet Serve as advocates for agricultural education at school board meetings What does an FFA Alumni affiliate do?

Having Your Initial Meeting • Contact all potential members. • Invite Chapter officers and advisor (Ask them to give a short presentation about the FFA chapter). • Have a State Alumni representative present or an alumni member from another alumni affiliate, if possible. • Make use of State and National FFA Alumni materials. • Have a meeting agenda. • Identify alumni goals and ideas with the FFA Advisor. • Have a sign-up sheet of everyone who attended. • For better attendance, have a meal or snacks before the initial meeting.

  9. Election of Officers The local advisor or an FFA chapter officer take the lead to elect an Alumni president • You can’t have an organized alumni affiliate and be successful without leaders. Just like FFA Chapters elect officers, the local Alumni needs good leaders as well. • Make sure that the president is someone who is willing to put forth the time and energy necessary to start an affiliate. • Votes can be determined by an election of attendees in the meeting.

Officer Requirements The new Alumni president can proceed with the election of a vice-president, secretary, treasurer, etc. • A minimum of three officers must be elected • Usually new officers are elected annually. • You can form your committees as you establish what your local FFA/ Ag Education needs are such as: • A chair of the scholarship committee • The chili supper chairperson • Chair of community activities/ Advocacy • Chair of Livestock shows • Chair of Fundraising • Chair of Chaperones

Chartering your Local Affiliate Adopting your local Constitution and Bylaws should be one of the first items of business after electing officers. • To obtain your charter application and a copy of the National Constitution and Bylaws, you can contact the one of the following: • Visit http://www.ffa.org/alumni/ to download a copy of the National Constitution and Bylaws. • Email the National FFA Alumni office atalumni@ffa.org to charter your affiliate. • Call the National FFA Alumni Association at 317-802-4292. Talk to one of the National FFA Staff members. Bylaws

Local FFA Alumni Affiliate Submit State & National Dues Submit your Alumni Membership Roster Submit a copy of your Affiliate’s Bylaws & Charter Application Joining the State & National FFA Alumni Association • In order to charter a local FFA alumni affiliate with the state and National FFA Alumni you must; 1) submit a roster with a minimum of ten annual and/or lifetime members, 2) submit your state and National dues, and 3) submit a copy of your bylaws and your charter application. • The above steps qualifies the local alumni and it’s members to participate in any state or National FFA Alumni Activity.

  13. Benefits of joining The National FFA Alumni Association Receive a free subscription to the National FFA Alumni’s newsletter and the New Visions magazine. Lifetime members receive a free copy of the FFA New Horizons magazine. The National FFA Alumni provides $100,000 annually to local affiliates in the form of rebates, WLC scholarships, college scholarships, local chapter grants, and other awards. Enjoy the satisfaction of being a member of the organization that has impacted your life or the life of your family. Obtain tax exemption qualification for your local affiliate afterofficially charteredwith National.

  14. Submitting your Dues • The local FFA Alumni affiliate determines the amount of their local dues. • The Treasurer collects the local, state and national membership dues and sends a check to the State FFA Executive Officer for state and national dues. • State dues is $10 per year and National dues is $10 per year. Lifetime National dues is a one time payment of $150. Once a Lifetime member, you are no longer required to pay annual state dues. • State and National dues needs to be submitted to the state FFA executive officer by April 1 each year.

  16. 3. Execute 2. Plan & Research 1. Set Goals Plan & Execute Alumni Activities 1. Make a list of goals with the FFA Advisor the Ag Ed department or the FFA chapter needs. 2. Find out what each alumni member can do. All people cannot do all things, find their niche. 3. Understand school policy requirements and liabilities. 4. Utilize community resources. 5. Have organized committee groups. 6. Execute your plans. 7. Stay Active!
