  2. What I Expected This Year • I expected to learn the same way I did at Andover • Thought Model was more of an “alternative school” rather than learning in an alternative way • More fun than Andover • Meet new people

  3. What I Now Know About Model • I was able to meet tons of new people and make more friends • Definitely more fun than Andover • Not an “alternative school” at all!! • More abstract learning, which I enjoyed • Interactive and involved more problem solving rather than studying from a textbook

  4. First Semester – 2 Classes • I took Theories of Self with Andrea and Film & Comp 1 with Geoff • Both were amazing classes • Theories of Self: • What stood out to me? • The book Finding Your Zone by Michael Lardon • I learned how to reach top physical and mental performance • Learned that although daydreaming may be frowned upon by teachers and parents, it is the most important thing a developing mind can do

First Semester Cont… • Film & Comp 1: • Watched movies like Juno, Freaks and Geeks, and Heathers • Favorite movie was Edward Scissorhands: • Learned not to judge someone based on their appearance • Just because he has scissors for hands, doesn’t mean he is a monster like the townspeople said • He has a big heart and cared for all people but others did not want to give him a chance.

  6. Second Semester – 1 Class • I continued with Film & Comp 2 • Watched movies like Malcolm X, Clerks, Do The Right Thing, Inside Man, and 25th Hour • Favorite movies were Inside Man and 25th Hour • Inside Man: • Loved the action and mystery • Great twist at the end that I was not expecting • The robbers were incredibly smart and intense • Learned that you may not be able to erase or forget the past

Second Semester Cont… • 25th Hour: • The actors were really great • Smart plot and very interesting • Learned that no one is safe from the law, no matter what • The assignment let me share my ideas of what I would do prior to being sent away to prison for over 10 years • This was my favorite movie of the year

  8. Core Competencies • Inquiry and Investigation - Made more connections between my work and school. Enjoyed doing my work more than at Andover • Problem Solving & Decision Making– Trust my intuition and not let others make my own decisions. Made smarter decisions with my work. • Creativity and Aesthetic Responsiveness–I was able to think outside of the box. Created more fascinating and creative works. • Communication & Human Interaction – Improved my intrapersonal skills and learned to make new friends easier • Self Awareness – I relied on myself more and learned to do my own work more • Ethics and Social Responsibility – Responsible for not only myself and my grade, but responsible for not allowing my friends to slack in class
