Esperanza learns that money doesn’t buy happiness When her father dies and they burn her house down she is sad that she doesn't have anything She doesn't want to accept that she is no longer rich When she moves to California she tells Isabel that she is going to be rich again and that Miguel and his parents will work for her again When Mama gets sick she realizes that she is not rich any more Esperanza works hard and she knows that money can not buy her happiness 3.5 Theme Life is full of valleys and mountains so you have to accept who you are no matter how much you deny it.

  11. 3.4 ANALYZE • The setting to Esperanza Rising is a camp in Arvin California. • The story takes place in the fields. • The time for this story is 1930s. • Their custom is Mexican culture. • The mood and the tone for the story is the same which is sad but it changes by season. • The meaning for the text is ,“Life is full valleys and mountains so you have to accept who you are”

  15. Examples of Tone Like when her house burns down. When her uncle asked her mother to merry him. Also when she tells Miguel that they live on different sides of the river. Examples of mood. Sad for her and kind of sorry to. I felt disgusted by this because he did not have respect for Esperanza `s father . I also felt mad because it didn't matter what they were going to do for them and it does not matter where in society you are in. Toneand mood

  16. When Esperanza`s father dies there was a thorn a roses thorn that cuts her and the rest of the family tells her its bad luck. When she arrives to the United states and meets Marta. Marta is mean to her, but in the end she becomes nice. That kind of creeped me out. Felt like she deserved to be treated better and well in the end everything works out.

THEME-”There is no Rose without thorns.” • The theme Is meaning that life is good but there's always bad things about life. • Example:Esperanza’s Dad is killed by bandits but every one figures Tio Luis sent them. • Example:The reader believes that the house burned down because of Tio Luis. • Example: Abuilita hurts her ankle so she's not able to be with her family in California. In Esperanza Rising, Esperanza learns a lot;Esperanza realizes that there's more to life then being rich.

Plot Of Esperanza Rising Plot of Asperanza Rising • Esperanzais a girl who lives with her parents. • Her dad gets killed by some bandits. • Now Tio Luis is treating to make life more difficult if mom doesn’t marry him. • Now they have to run away to C.A to look for a job. • They find a job on the farms picking fruit and they do chores around the place to keep it clean. • After a massive dust storm mama gets sick and gets valley fever. • Mom gets depressing from it and cant work and she has to go to the hospital for 6 months. • While she is gone they save money to get the grandma back here to see the mom to make her feel better. • Miguel takes the money and doesn’t tell anyone what he is doing but he's really going to get the grandma. • He calls them and tells them to met them all at the train stop cause he got a surprise for them. • After they all greet her they show her the little house they been living in when they were away from her then they all start on the blanked that they been knitting.   26. Don’t judge a book by its cover • Marta thinks that all of the rich people are mean and selfish. • she treats esperanza badly when they first meet.

  27. There is no life without difficulties • Esperanza has to take care of her sick mother that is in the hospital. • Pay the hospital bills. • Work in the fields like the rest of the people there. • Esperanza never gives up even though she thinks all hope is lost.

  28. NEVER GIVE UP • Her uncles send to kill her father. • They burn her house and the grape vines. • They take her papas land and leave her and her mother nothing… • She has to start her life over as a peasant in the US.
