  1. The OutsidersS.E. HINTON1967fiction Tyler.S 7th

  2. Setting • The setting of “The Outsiders” took place in the 1960’s in Oklahoma in a small town called Windrixville inside a small abandoned church. Another location in the story is at Pony boy’s house and at a hospital.

  3. Characters

  4. Conflict • It’s man vs man because the socs are constantly fighting with the greasers.

  5. Summary of Plot • The story is about a boy, his friends and his family that are constantly fighting with the socs an upper class gang. During the story one of the socs members gets killed while he was trying to drown one of the greasers in a water fountain. In part of the story a old abandoned church caught on fire and there were children inside and two greasers risked their life and went in to save them.

  6. Theme • Sometimes fighting back isn’t a good thin • Text Evidence 1: “I killed him he said slowly I killed that boy,bob the handsome soc lying there in the moon light doubled up and still a dark pool was growing from him slowly over the blue white cement I looked at Johnny’s hand he was clutching his switchblade.” pg.52 • Text Evidence 2:” There was a band aid over Darry’s forehead and he had a black eye .One side of two bits face was taped up I found out later that he had four stitches in his cheeks and seven in his hand.” pg.153 • Text Evidence 3: “Soda had gotten to him first Johnny was lying face down on the ground Soda turned him over gently I nearly got sick someone had beaten him up badly.”

  7. Point of View • This story is told by Pony boy. I think the story would be very different if someone else told the story because Pony boy went through crazy and exciting things throughout the story that other characters didn’t go through.

  8. Symbolism • I think the switchblade symbolizes this story because throughout the story it is used for a number off different task including killing one of the socs.

  9. Recommendation • I highly recommend this book to other people that want a book that keeps them on the edge of their seats the whole way through it.
