  2. Assembly of a TIM in a S7-300-Rack (1) • The TIM module can be used in a S7-300 together with any S7-300 CPU with a partyline internal communication bus (K bus). These are: • CPU 314 *) > 6ES7 314-1AE02-0AB0 • CPU 314 IFM> 6ES7 314-5AE02-0AB0 • CPU 315> 6ES7 315-1AF01-0AB0 • CPU 315-2 DP *) > 6ES7 315-2AF01-0AB0 • CPU 316> 6ES7 316-1AG00-0AB0 • CPU 316-2 DP> 6ES7 316-2AG00-0AB0 The TIM can be inserted into any of the module racks 0 to 3, but only in the expansion racks 1 to 3 if these racks are connected with the CPU via the IM 360/IM 361 interface modules. All slots designed for SM, FM or CP can be used for the TIM. Every TIM is delivered with a bus connector. Assembly of a TIM in a S7-300-Rack (2) • One of the following C7 Control Systems may be used as well instead of a S7-300 CPU: • C7-633/P> 6ES7 633-1DF00-0AE3 • C7-633 DP> 6ES7 633-2BF00-0AE3 • C7-634/P> 6ES7 634-1DF00-0AE3 • C7-634 DP> 6ES7 634-2BF00-0AE3 • C7-626/P> 6ES7 626-1DG02-0AE3 • C7-626/P DP > 6ES7 626-2DG02-0AE3 The TIM can be inserted into any of the expansion racks 1 to 3. These racks are connected to the C7 unit via the IM 360 and IM 361 interface modules (the IM360 is already integrated in the C7 unit). All slots designed for SM, FM or CP can be used for the TIM. Every TIM is delivered with a bus connector. The TIM is connected to the module left of it via this bus connector.

  4. TIM 3 S7-300 WAN S7-300 with one WAN connection The simplest configuration: One SIMATIC S7-300 with one TIM 3 on the partyline, with one WAN connection via the modem integrated in the TIM.

The modem can be inserted on a separate S7-300 mounting rail or on a 35 mm standard mounting rail (a suitable adapter is available). The illustration to the left shows such a configuration. The illustration to the left shows a configu-ration where the modem is positioned to the far right in module rack 0. The TIM and modem are placed directly adjacent to one another to provide a better overview.The TIM is connected to the module directly left of it via a bus connector. There is no bus connector between the TIM and the modem.

When TIM 4 modules with internal modems are used here and the other four external modem connections are also used, this allows the connection of a total of 8 WANs. The illustration shows such a maximum configuration. However, the actual limitation results from the available working memory in the CPU for user programs, because the greater the network, the greater the memory demands will be for the specific telecontrol user program.

The TIM is mounted on a separate S7-300 mounting rail (TIM rack) and connected with the S7-400 CPU via its MPI port. All currently available multi-instance capable S7-400 CPUs can be used. The CPU 318-2DP also can only be connected to a TIM via its MPI port, i.e. to a TIM 4 1) Redundant SINAUT solutions based on CPU 414-4H or CPU 417-4H are not possible!

  8. S7-400 TIM 4 MPI-Bus WAN S7-400 with one WAN connection • The simplest configuration: • One SIMATIC S7-400 with one TIM 4 on the MPI-Bus, • with one WAN connection via the modem integrated in the TIM. • The TIM is mounted on a separate S7-300 mounting rail.

S7-400 Cable 7701 TIM 4 MDx MPI-Bus WAN (2) WAN (1) S7-400 with two WAN connections If two WAN connections are required, another external modem can be connected to the TIM 4, for example, a SINAUT ST7 modem. The TIM and the external modem are mounted together on a separate S7-300 mounting rail. The TIM is connected with the CPU via its MPI port. The connection between the TIM and the external MDx modem is made via the standard type 7701 cable.

S7-400 S7-300 TIM 4 MPI-Bus WAN S7-300 and S7-400 with a shared WAN connection As a TIM 4 can communicate not only with one but several CPUs via MPI, regardless of whether they are type S7-400 or S7-300 CPUs, a SINAUT station might also be configu-rated as shown in the illustra-tion. The TIM provides access to the WAN for both the S7-400 and the S7-300. This could be a larger station in which the automation tasks are distributed to several PLCs.

This could be a control center. The maximum number of TIMs that can be connected through MPI to a S7-400 depends on the connection resources that the CPU has available. However, the working memory of the CPU must also be taken into consideration, because the greater the network, the greater the memory demands for the specific telecontrol user program.

SINAUT ST7cc TIM 4 MPI-Bus WAN SINAUT ST7cc with one WAN connection Via its MPI interface a TIM4 can be connected not only to S7-400 or S7-400 CPUs, but also to the Control Center System SINAUT ST7cc. The picture shows the simplest configuration for a Control Center System SINAUT ST7cc with one WAN connection.

The maximum number of TIM4 modules which can be connected to an ST7cc depends on the communication adapter that is used in ST7cc. For instance, together with the Softnet S7 driver the CP5611 allows the connection of upto eight TIM4, meaning a total of 16 WAN connections.

S7-400 SINAUT ST7cc TIM 4 MPI-Bus WAN ST7cc and S7-400 with a shared WAN connection In addition to the SINAUT ST7cc a local controller, for instance an S7-400, may be connected to the MPI, also running data communication with the telecontrol stations. The TIM provides access to the WAN for both the S7-400 and the ST7cc. The TIM will pass received data to both units in parallel and will send data which either comes from ST7cc or S7-400 to the outstations. For instance, this could be a control center where, apart from the ST7cc, the S7-400 executes central automation tasks and/or controls a display panel or desk.
