Why go on exchange? • Gain in-depth knowledge of another culture • Experience your academic subject or view of the world through a new lens • Develop intercultural competencies that are of increasing value to future employers • Achieve something that will challenge you, encourage confidence and independence and transform you personally and intellectually • Domestic students can study abroad without paying international student fees

Funding your exchange program • Killam Fellowship program • Minimum 10.0 CGPA required • $5000 scholarship • OUI program • OBW – Germany • ORA – France • OMG – India • OJS – China • Bursary available • DCIE Bursary • Multiple bursaries • Available to undergraduate students through the Discovery Centre • Scotiabank Scholarship • $5000 annually • Available to students studying in a location in which Scotiabank operates.

Exchange Process • Step One: Find out if you are eligible for exchange • Step Two: Research your choices • Step Three: Attend the Exchange Fair on October 6th & 7th • Step Four: Prepare your Application Package • Step Five: Wait for Results • Step Six: Attend the pre-departure orientation session • Step Seven: Create your “MyWorldAbroad” account • Step Eight: Complete your pre-departure assignment • Step Nine: Apply to your host institution • Step Ten: Stay connected

Eligibility Criteria • Undergraduate students must be registered full time with minimum 2nd year standing. • Undergraduate students must have completed at least one full academic year at Carleton University. • Graduate students must have departmental approval. • A minimum overall CGPA of 7.0 is required for the general exchange program. • A minimum overall CGPA of 10.0 is required for the Killam Fellowship Program-closed competition. • Architecture students must consult their department to determine the CGPA and studio grades required. • All students must have enough credits remaining in their degree program to study full time at the partner institution.

  7. Research Your Choices • Choose the country and language in which you wish to study • Check the exchange program web sites of our partner universities • Study the services and resources available to support you on each campus • Visit your departmental advisor to get course related advice • Visit the ISSO Resource Centre • Be sure to apply for the institutions that offer programs for your degree program. • Consider registering for a summer language program in Spain, Russia, Germany, China or France.  • Choose three (3) universities for your Exchange Application • Check the International Exchange: Course Equivalencies Database

  8. Talk to someone in person • Visit an exchange information session • Visit the exchange fair October 6th & 7th • Speak to an exchange student • Speak to your departmental advisor

  9. Apply • Complete an application through Carleton Central • Applications are accepted November 5-December 5 • Non-refundable $80 application fee required • Submit your application and wait for your results • Apply to your host university when you are approved
