LESSON FOUR THE BOY AND THE BANK OFFICER Words to Be Explained through Context • to happen to: to do/to be by chance--- She happened to be away, so we did not see her. • in the first place: used to introduce a series of points in an argument or to talk about what should have been done--- You shouldn’t have told him in the first place! • overlighted: having too much light • to suggest: to indicate • sandy hair: yellowish-brown hair • to think twice: to use the mind in an active way to form connected idea for a longer time--- It is no use thinking twice.

(para16) --- I found a good chance to do or to say sth. • to move in for the kill: to prepare to finish off an opponent--- He had grasped many powerful evidences and finally he moved in for the kill. • teller: person who receives and pays out money over a bank counter. • interests: profit • to shake down: to get money from sb. by threats, violence, etc--- This man kidnapped the boy to shake his parents down.
