Goals • Breeders – adoption of Marker-Assisted Breeding • Allied Scientists - utilization of newly generated science based knowledge, tools and databases • Industry – better understanding of the power of DNA-informed breeding leads to new ways to jointly accelerate commercialization and impact of new cultivars RosBREED

Year 2 Deliverables 78/130 recipients opened the Nov 2011 newsletter and Community breeders said: What • Project-wide content – developed, disseminated and undertaken “RosBREED newsletter stands out among other similar project newsletters” To whom • Project participants & stakeholders “it builds a sense of community” “circulate to a wider audience” Impact • Stakeholders gain knowledge of project activities and deliverables. Stats: in 2011 the RosBREED website was visited by 2,242 unique visitors, from 79 countries. Since creation, 5,541 visits from US - ALL 50 states

Year 2 Deliverables What • Expansion of RosBREED network through presentations at meetings and informal gatherings – conducted ASHS 2011 poster and oral presentations To whom • Breeders, allied scientists, industry stakeholders Impact • Awareness and interest created at national and international meetings including “unveiling” of Jewels

  11. Obj 5: Year 2 Deliverables What • Assist in surveys - Socio‐Economics Team grower mail‐in surveys and clicker surveys at grower meetings To whom • Market intermediaries and growers Impact • Growers help identify valuable Jewels and are more knowledgeable of their local breeding programs

Challenges and Plan for Tackling • Video content obtained, free computer software programs for editing existing videos is limited • Experiment with softwares that have been used successfully in other extension venues • Obtain participation of a high percentage of Rosaceae Community Breeders at the “MAB in Action” Workshop • Hold Workshop the day prior to the ASHS meeting in Miami; generate interest in the Workshop through publicizing success stories Computer Demo: RosBREED Videos

Planned Year 3 Deliverables What • RosBREED Participatory Workshop: “Marker-Assisted Breeding in Action”, 30 July 2012 – promote, prepare & conduct • Visit breeding programs on request to share RosBREED’sdeliverables To whom • Demonstration and Community breeders Intended Impact • Comprehension by breeders of available knowledge, technologies and software for conducting routine MAB; application of MAB in their breeding programs
