  2. Story Plot • Aeneas is telling Dido about his voyage from Troy to Carthage. • They sail to Thrace and begin to make a sacrifice. They try to cut down a tree which starts spurting blood because it grew from spears used to murder Polydorus (Trojan king Priam’s son). • They have a funeral for Polydorus. • They sail to Delos. An oracle tells them to go to the Trojan’s original home. Anchises (Aeneas’s father) thinks this means Crete.

  3. Story Plot • They settle in Crete, but a famine occurs. • Aeneas dreams the household gods tell him to go to Italy, Dardanus home land. • They set sail but are caught in a storm, finally landing on the island of Harpies (birds with women faces) WEIRD!!!! • The Harpies fight them for trying to snatch their cows. Queen of the Harpies curses them, but it does not affect them because they pray.

Story Plot • So now, they spend the winter in Leucas region of western Greece. • They sail to Epirus in northwestern Greece, where they meet Helenus, currently ruling some Greek cities. • Helenus(Priam’s son) married Andromache (Hector’s widow). Helenus prophecies: keep away from Scylla and Charybdis, keep praying to Juno, consult Sibyl, a priestess and oracle, in Cumae, and when you see a giant white pig with 30 white piglets you know you’re there.

  6. Story Plot • They go to Ceraunia(east of Italy). • Then they go south around the boot. They sail away from Scylla and Charybdis, but that means towards the Cyclops and erupting Mt. Aetna. • On the island of the Cyclops they meet the emaciated Greek, Achaemenides, previously a sailor on Odysseus’ ship. Just in time, Achaemenides tells them to run for their lives. Polyphemus, the Cyclops which Odysseus blinded, discovers them as they sail away.

  7. Story Plot • They sail around the south coast of Sicily. Anchises, Aeneas’s dad, dies at Drepanum. • Aeneas and company sail to Carthage.
