Work with Color • AKA Hue • One of the first things a reader sees and responds to • Screen colors are different than printed colors • Use Color Systems – method for defining standard colors • Computer Color System – RBG Red, Blue, Green • Printed Color System – CMYK Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow, Black • Transparency is a color modification

Enhance Objects • You can use shadows, textures, gradients, and patterns to enhance and existing object. • Pattern – repetitive designs such as grids or hatch marks, usually black and white • Textures – bitmaps graphic files used for fills • Gradients – blend of colors that gradually change in brightness or tint • Format>Autoshape • Shadows and 3D Shapes are at the end of the Formatting Toolbar

  7. Enhance Text • Drop Cap – Makes the first letter of a text larger than the rest • Format>Drop Cap • WordArt • 3D text characters

  8. Insert Horizontal Rules • Printing lines that can be inserted before or after a paragraph of text • Format>Horizontal Rule

  9. Apply Border Art • Format>Object>BorderArt Button • Makes a border for your page based on some type of graphic

  10. Create a Watermark • Watermark – semitransparent image usually inserted in the background of a publication.

  11. Use Design Objects • Premade elements that are available to you in certain programs. • Mastheads – top of a newsletter • TOC – directs reader to specific area in publication
