  1. WE HELP YOU TO MAXIMISE PERSONAL INJURY COMPENSATION! PERSONAL INJURY COMPENSATION March 2018 MADE A PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM? WE HELP YOU TO MAXIMISE INJURY COMPENSATION! There are problems on a radiological scan, what do I do? CONTACT FOYLE LEGAL One of the first steps in many personal injury claims, is to obtain a radiological scan about the nature and extent of any injuries that a person has suffered. Some examples of these scans include x-rays, CT scans and MRI scans. When people receive the results of these scans, and they seem to indicate there is something wrong, many people are afraid and do not know what to do. In this article we have explained some of the things that can be done in this situation. Speak to your GP in many situations it will be a person’s general practitioner who refers them to get the radiological scan. The first step should therefore be to discuss the results with the general practitioner. In some circumstances, the general practitioner will be able to fully interpret the results of the scan, and explain them to their patient, however, it should be pointed out that this is not always the case, and in many cases it will be appropriate for a general practitioner to make a referral to a suitably qualified specialist. Some of the things that can happen when there is specialist referral While the nature of the specialist referral will depend upon the personal injury suffered by the injured person, some common specialists include orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists, neurosurgeons and pain specialists. The specialist will usually assess whether your treatment should be taken to the next step. This may mean surgery, but often this is later on down the track, and it is common for specialists to try and resolve the problem conservatively as possible. This will usually mean first trialing other measures such as cortisone injections and trialing non-invasive treatment such as physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.
