If she drives 55 mph the whole way, how long will it take for her to get to work? • 46.33 minutes • 43.63 minutes • 43.36 minutes • 43.33 minutes at 55 mph, she will travel 55 miles in 60 minutes (one hour) but to travel 40 miles at the same rate, how long would it take? let’s set up an equation and cross-multiply… 55x = 2400 x = 43.63 minutes

How long does it take him to get here? • 12 minutes and .68 seconds • 12 minutes and 41 seconds • 12 minutes and 68 seconds • 13 minutes and 8 seconds In the question, the .68 represents 68 hundredth’s of a minute we must find out how many seconds are in 68 hundredth’s of a minute… let’s set up an equation and cross-multiply… 100x = 4080 x = 40.8

How much longer would it take her to get here if she drove 35 mph instead of 45 mph? • 17 m 14 s • 13 m 33 s • 3 m 18 s • 3 m 49 s Looks like we need to set up an equation for each scenario to find the difference in time. We’ll do it the same way we did the first two today. 35x = 600 x = 17.14 minutes 45x = 600 x = 13.33 minutes So if she drives 35 mph, it will take her 3.81 minutes longer to get to school. Now we need to turn .81 (hundredths) into seconds…more cross multiplying… 100x = 4860 x = 48.6 seconds so which answer is the best?

However, for the most part, as soon as you miss your 2nd question, that is where you are labeled. FYI, using these timing intervals on the actual PSAE would result in 30 seconds left-over to fill in bubbles on the last 9 questions of the test (3 Level 6’s and all 6 Level 7’s). Also, if you are going to achieve a Level 7, you should be able to set up your own intervals!!!
