  3. Empty Bowls Imagine/RENDER Group • International effort to fight hunger • Started in 1990 in Oxford, Michigan • Art-based community service - make bowls • Bowls stamped with Empty Bowls logo • Hunger education - meal event with speakers • Donations to hunger organization (bowl=memento)

What does it look like? • Mickey Leland Memorial Hunger Banquet • (Oxfam Americaproject) • Food event mirroring world food distribution statistics • Participants are divided into three economic groups: • Wealthy-served a sumptuous meal • Middle class-served an average meal • Poor-served small amount of food

  8. Hunger Banquet • Thursday, April 5, 2007. 6pm -9pm • Revere High School cafeteria

  9. Tickets $10 + non-perishable food item or $15 $5 (age 12 and under) $5 + non-perishable food item (students with ID)

  10. Upon arrival at the Hunger Banquet, Guests are randomly divided into three groups: Poor, Middle Class and Wealthy, (based on world hunger statistics.) The Poor will get a small portion of rice – which they will eat with their hands – while sitting on the floor in a “refugee camp” setting.

  11. The Wealthy people will eat a sumptuous meal, served in style with wait service; The Middle Class will have a basic meal, served cafeteria-style; The purpose of the Hunger Banquet is to simulate the randomness of hunger in the world, and to educate people through a shared experience.

  17. Attendance is important to the success of the Hunger Banquet; if people are unable to attend they may give their tickets to someone else who is able to be there. The purpose of the Hunger Banquet is to simulate the randomness of hunger in the world, and to educate people through a shared experience.

  18. Donations are welcome: Checks may be made out to “Revere High School” with “Empty Bowls/HungerBanquet” in the memo(delivered or mailed to Revere High School, 101 School Street, Revere) Non-perishable food items may be dropped at the High School during the Hunger Banquet. * *
