  4. Strategy: Analyze Story Structure • Authors organize a story so there are characters, setting, and a plot with a beginning, middle, and end • By seeing how these parts of a story fit together, you can understand what happens and why it happens

  5. Skill: Character, Setting, and Plot • Characters • Stories have characters which are people in the story • Their actions move the story along • Setting • When and where the story takes place • Plot • The events in a story. • Has a beginning, middle, and end

  6. PREVIEW & PREDICT When I say “Go”, take 1 minute to preview the illustrations. Ask yourself: • What do you think the title of the story means? • Do you think this story will be funny? On your index card, write your predictions. After we listen to the selection, we will see if your questions were answered.
