  2. Studying journalism will help you: • Refine interpersonal skills • Promote self esteem • Become more literate • Learn responsibility • Become a leader

  3. Studying journalism will help you: • Exercise problem solving and critical thinking skills • Manage deadlines and projects • Learn about new points of views • Learn to be neutral • Learn up-to-date technology skills (desktop publishing, web design, photo editing)

  6. Careers available: Editor • Copy Editor • Managing Editor • Editor-in-Chief • Division Editor • Photography Editor

  7. Careers available: Photographer • News / Feature / Sports • Advertising • Broadcast • Documentary (photo essays) • Illustration photography (full length features) • Magazine

  10. Careers available: Public Relations • Produce press releases that are sent to media outlets informing them about developments • Creates graphics (logos, brochures, flyers, annual reports, pamphlets, campaigns, newsletters) • Shoot photographs to accompany material

  11. Careers available: Publisher • Owns newspapers, magazines and/or broadcast outlets. • Depending on the publication size, publishers are also often editors.

  12. Careers available: Magazines • The same careers available at newspapers are also available for magazines. The difference is size and deadlines.

  13. Careers available: Freelancer • As a person builds their reputation, freelancing can become an option. This allows the person to: • Choose their jobs • Be their own boss (to a degree) • Command a higher pay than a salaried or hourly staff member

  14. People with journalism degrees also have become • Lawyers • Judges • Politicians • Web Designers • Campaign Managers • Book authors
