This project showcases an innovative automatic toothpaste dispenser utilizing Cypress's PSoC technology. Students will learn about motor control, capacitive sensing, and battery management while developing a market-ready product. The project includes building a hardware mockup and creating a mobile app for iOS/Android to collect dispensing metrics. Unlike existing solutions, the dispenser will address issues like messy dispensing and lack of size compatibility. Students will utilize development kits and software tools provided by Cypress to create functional prototypes ready for commercialization.

Improved Automatic Toothpaste Dispenser • Cypress is looking to show a practical example using multiple facets of our PSoC • Motor Control Dispense measuring • Capacitive sensing Battery Power management • Small display control BLE communication • Students will get introduced to a highly integrated embedded microcontroller • Develop with the PSOC4-BLE on a module • Develop firmware in the PSOC Creator design environment • Develop an application on iOS/Android to collect metrics from the product • Students will be able to create something that could be marketable • Cypress expects to take the student report and create an application note from it
Requirements • Look at the few units available on Amazon and address their shortfalls • Messy dispensing mechanisms • Unable to use different size tubes • No way to change the amount to be dispensed • No way to measure how much has been dispensed • No indication of Battery level / not battery operated • No communication to an app to collect metrics – how much dispensed, when dispensed • Etc. • Build a hardware mockup (or full product) of the improved dispenser • Design an app for the phone to collect relevant data
