Why are we here? • Gather leaders and organizations in one room across a broad spectrum of the building industry • Develop a coordinated standards strategy across the domains of design, construction, operations and real estate • Develop a Web-based clearinghouse of standards related projects and activities at http://building-connections.org • Seek to harmonize overlapping or competing efforts • Create a broader awareness of the value of interoperability and open standards for data exchange • Create a more cohesive “pie” of members, funding sources, and research initiatives focused on industry-wide issues • Showcase success stories – CIS/2 and PISCES standard ©2004 Jonathan Cohen

Interoperability: • The ability of software and hardware from multiple vendors to communicate seamlessly across diverse systems, platforms, applications and networks, using open, public standards for data exchange. ©2004 Jonathan Cohen
