  3. Introduction • Until 2005, for the 26th year, Bahrain is still free of autochthonous malaria transmission. • Malaria control operations are directed towards eradication of vectors, and in parallel with the strategy to roll back malaria aiming for best standards of malaria control process.

  4. Integrated Anti-Malaria Measures • Frequent anti-larval measures, • adult control campaigns, • active malaria surveillance, • and prompt treatment of confirmed cases of malaria, continued in accordance with the Malaria Control Strategy.

  5. Malaria Casesin2004 v 2005 • 85 v 71 total imported cases. • 81 v 57 vivax cases. • 04 v 14 falciparum cases. • 00 v 00 relapsing case.

Roll back Malaria strategy • Collaboration and support between governmental parties towards sound and healthy environment. • Public participation is always enhanced • Entomological research and studies are being directed toward evaluation, in order to make use for further improved control measures.

  9. Constraints-1 There are no reliable data bases that can be referred to in order to answer some important questions about: • the antimalarial drugs actually used for first-line and second-line treatments? • quantities used annually of each drug by governmental or by private medical sectors. • the cost and efficacy of treatments.

  10. Constraints-2 No unified Malaria Treatment Policy That limits the use of antimalaria drugs by both governmental and private sectors to only what is suggested by the MOH in accordance with the national policy of Bahrain, and recommended treatments by WHO.

  11. National Strategic Planfor Malaria & mosquito Control 1.Goals • Eliminate the chances for local transmission of malaria and other vector-born diseases. • Minimize the nuisance of mosquitoes. • Reduce adverse effects of used Pesticides, and enhance efficiency of control measures.

Objectives • Maintain Bahrain free of local malaria and other vector-borne diseases. • Reduce % of +ve mosquito breeding spots to less than 2.00% by the end of 2008. • Maintain an up-to-date data profile on malaria vectors and their resistance to control measures.

  13. National Strategic Planfor Malaria & mosquito Control 3. Strategies • Conduct prompt investigation on reported confirmed malaria cases. • Keep an up-to-date registration of reported positive cases of malaria. • Reduce percent rate of +ve breeding of Anopheline mosquito.

Strategies • Increase number of control staff in accordance with expansion of residential areas. • Reorganize team work in accordance with governorates boundary scheme. • Evaluate progress monthly and by the end of each year and correct accordingly.
