  1. Blenheim CDP: ETE Programme working in partnership with SUDRG (Service User Drug Reference Group) Kensington and Chelsea DAAT

  2. Our message…..We Believe in ….. YOU! ETE is a vital and essential part of the treatment journey for people trying to integrate back into the community. Often the people we work with have no sense of direction, lack confidence and self esteem. This is our main challenge. Most of them are far from job ready. We ‘believe’ people can change and help them to start to ‘believe’ in themselves. Supporting them to reach their full potential in life, in a friendly and supportive environment. By setting small, achievable, realistic goals we can empower to realise their future, step by step.

  3. Overall Aim of ETE • Our initial aim was to write an ETE Strategy, ETE Directory and conduct a TrainingNeeds Analysis of service users’ ETE needs in Kensington and Chelsea, with the view to develop an ETE Programme for drug/alcohol users/ex users in Kensington & Chelsea.

  4. Objectives: • To network with drug & alcohol agencies in the borough for referrals • To assess, advise and guide service users • To map service users into ETE opportunities in the borough • To provide relevant accredited, non accredited training and support packages • To monitor development and progress • To maintain close links with referrer's and providers

  5. ETE = Soft skills. Basic Skills.Life Skills. Client treatment services need to become more involved in clients ‘ETE’ package and integrating it in their care plans right from the beginning not just left as an ‘aftercare’ thought but intrinsically worked into the care plan from the start.

  6. Knowledge & Experience Working with Substance Use Service users Works with drug & alcohol referring agencies The ETE Coordinator Funded by the DAAT Provides one to one support and accredited training Links clients into a range ETE providers incl: JCP

  7. Blocks to returning to work

  8. Top 4 Biggest Blocks for People? • Fear …………….. • Low confidence • Fear of coming off benefits • Fear of criminal record and disclosure

  9. Painting a more truthful picture…… It can take between 1 to 2 years for most clients to feel ready to work after treatment……. And that’s the more confident ones who haven't relapsed……… Confidence: the biggest blocker

  10. ETE = 3 Areas Basic Skills: literacy, numeracy, language, reading, writing, IT. Life Skills: social, family, community, leisure, finance, bills, cooking, spirituality.
