  1. Types of Industrial Furnaces and Their Individual Applications An industrial furnace is used worldwide for a variety of purposes. As the demand for some of the latest technology increases, any and every industrial furnace company are becoming compelled to evolve their existing models to give rise to new furnace designs. Types of Industrial Furnaces and Their Use Cases Ashing Furnaces An ashing furnace is used to determine the properties of the ash formed from the combustion of a sample product. This furnace is used in the petroleum industry where it is used to determine the amount of ash formed from the combustion of petroleum products, coal, and lubricant oils. This is done to determine the presence of trace impurities that are sometimes only seen in the ash. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an industrial furnace company should construct furnaces that have an inner volume of 18L, a continuous operating temperature of about 1100℃, a proper corrosion- protection coating on all its parts, the ability to heat up in less than ninety minutes, and so on. Calcination Furnace Calcination is a process in which heat treatment of samples such as minerals or ceramic powders are conducted by heating it below the melting points, causing it to transition its phases, thermally decompose, or to remove a volatile portion

  2. from the samples. These are also used to prepare raw materials for its due processing or to recover the base materials from other processes. Tempering Furnaces Tempering is a metallurgical process that is used to improve the hardness and elasticity of steel and other iron-based alloy metals. This is done in a tempering furnace where it is heated to a particular temperature and then cooled. This process is done after hardening and quenching the metal to remove some of its hardness. In sword-making, tempering is the process used to improve the ductility and flexibility of the metal blade so that it becomes less susceptible to being broken. The color of the tempered steel is an indication of the temperature to which it was heated. A light-straw color indicates a temperature of 204℃ or 399℉ while a light blue color indicates a temperature of 337℃ or 639℉. Annealing Furnace Annealing is a process in which metals or other materials like glass are heated to a specific temperature to improve its ductility and reduce it hardness so that it is easier to mold them into desired shapes. The annealing furnace is where this process is conducted. Typically, these are manufactured by an industrial furnace company, with the aim of heating an object placed inside it uniformly. Therefore, these ovens are large and allow the placement of the object in such a way that it receives maximum exposure to heat. Sintering furnaces These are used to improve specific properties of a material and decrease its porosity. This is used to coalesce materials into a solid form without converting them into a liquid first and is done by applying heat or pressure. This process is used in ceramic, plastic, metallurgic, and other industries. Tensile Testing Furnaces These furnaces are used to measure the tensile strength of objects by submitting them to a controlled amount of tension until the object breaks. It is commonly used in quality testing procedures. Rotary Tube Furnace This is a circular tube furnace that rotates during its functioning. It can apply heat in multiple heat zones and is used in the processing of materials. These are only a select few types of industrial furnaces that are commonly used around the globe. Depending on the kind of work it does, there may be variations to the common designs described here.
