Classroom Management • Rambling: Wandering around and off the subject; using far-fetched examples or analogies. • Shyness or Silence: Lack of participation • Talkativeness: Knowing everything, manipulation, chronic whining. • Sharpshooting: Trying to shoot you down or trip you up. • Heckling/Arguing: Disagreeing with everything you say; making personal attacks. • Grandstanding: Getting caught up in one’s own agenda or thoughts to the detriment of other learners. Grades • Standard Grading Scale: • A = 90 – 100% • B = 80 – 89% • C = 70 – 79% • D = 60 – 69% • F = Below 60% • Students must earn at least 75% to pass courses in: • Associate Degree in Nursing (NURS) • Certified Nurse Assisting (NURA) • Licensed Practical Nursing (LPNU) • Medical Assisting (MAST)

  11. Attendance • Students attend: • when they are invested • when there is a reason • when the class is organized • when their learning styles are being met • when class is relevant • when they see a connection with grades

Attendance • Technical Studies Attendance Policy: • A student who enrolls in classes in the Technical Studies Division is expected to attend all class meetings. • It is recognized, however, there may be situations that make it impossible to attend a class at the stated time. Therefore, absences and/or tardies may be excused by the instructor for the following reasons: • Illness • Illness or death in immediate family • Military duty • Unusual work conflicts such as last minute overtime requirements or business emergencies – not just routine work hours. • Legal obligations (court appearances, etc.) • Each unexcused absence will result in one point being deducted from your final average. • Each unexcused tardy will result in one-half point being deducted from the final average. • Faculty can develop alternative policies that fit their course design.

Work Ethics • Sample Activities: • Emphasize Work Ethics in course content (discussing character, productivity, attendance etc. in your field) • Students read lessons online and complete related assignments • Guest speaker within your field of study • Current news issues relating to Work Ethics • Sample Assessment: • Check lists • Graded web assignment (with discussion) • Create rubric/grading system for web assignment

  17. Adjunct Faculty Responsibilities • Week 1 • Print class roll each day and check attendance • Week 2 • Enter attendance in Banner by the 6th day of the semester • Upload syllabus • Sign and return contract • Week before Mid-Term • Enter grades below “C” in Banner

Adjunct Faculty Responsibilities • Final Exams • Must be administered on assigned dates • Missed Classes • Complete a “Missed Class Form” • Final Grades • Must be submitted by semester deadline • Tests • Submit copies of all tests to Technical Studies at end of each semester • Maintain attendance records and gradebook for entire semester (Excel gradebook)
