  1. Steps for Windshield Installation

  2. Windshield is more than just glass, its frame is a structural part of your car as it helps to support the roof so your car doesn't collapse during a rollover. The installation of your windshield may be as important as the installation of your brakes. It prevents passengers from being ejected during a collision. According to experts, studies show 70% to 85% of all windshield installations are not done correctly.

  3. In cities with high demand of windshield installation like Ahmedabad and Jaipur, there are certified auto glass shops which specialize in replacing windshields. Taking your car or truck to a dealership doesn't guarantee the windshield will be installed correctly. Factors like not using a primer or the wrong adhesive, installing in temperatures below 40 degrees, and handling the windshield without gloves can cause the windshield installation to go wrong.

  4. There are 6 signs that a windshield was not installed correctly: 1.Old urethane or adhesive was not removed–“Pinch weld” is the area on the car where the urethane is placed. This area contains the old bead of urethane that is applied during the manufacturing of the windshield. To bond the windshield properly this bead will need to be removed and properly prepared, pinched weld to be 500 pounds per square inch after it dries. In order to do this, the expert will need to cut off the old bead of urethane and prep the pinch weld with rust inhibitor or primer before laying the new bead. The rust inhibitor or primer will keep any exposed metal from rusting at a later date. 2.The installer did not wear gloves– Whenever a new glass is being handled it is important that gloves are worn all the time. Any oil from the technician’s hands can be transferred to the glass which will cause the new urethane to adhere improperly. Most certified glass techs use a box of gloves to ensure they use a new and clean pair for every installation process they perform. 3.The newly installed windshield is not flushed to the car’s frame– If you ever notice that the new glass is not sitting properly in the opening, chances are that the installer did not use factory recommended replacement glass. This is noticeable in some aftermarket glass that is produced by manufacturing plants not following OEM standards. This doesn’t happen in metros like Bangalore, Chennai but in small cities. Be sure to know the brand of the glass that is being installed and whether it meets the factory recommended specifications of your automotive manufacturer. 4.The new moulding is not flat around the glass– This happens when an installer uses bulk type of moulding or uses the wrong moulding for your specific car. The repair technician will need to re-install the moulding to resolve this problem. 5.There are leaks around the edge of the glass– This can be mainly caused from air pockets between the new urethane and the glass or pinch weld after it dries. The leaks can be unnoticeable until you get a chance to take a drive. You can definitely notice the wind noise if there is a leak. 6.The new glass appears wavy– This one is more of a quality issue, a lot of cars drive around with wavy windshields. Most of these windshields will cause things to appear distorted when looking through the glass. This happens when, while buying, the glass does not meet specifications mentioned by the manufacturer.

  5. Windshield is a glass sandwich, with a layer of polyvinyl in between. With the silicon connecting the windshield to the car, it is a great isolation and water resistant. One needs to be very cautious when selecting a company to handle the car glass needs. It is a good idea to locate experts that are certified for any windshield repair or replacement services and adhere to the guidelines. This is for keeping the consumer’s safety in mind.

  6. A windshield does more than just keeping the wind off your face; it also supports the passenger-side airbags, and can help to prevent passengers from being ejected from the car in case of an accident. If the windshield glass develops cracks, looks distorted or if any kind of leakage is noticed, rust or mold coming from the seams, you should call a certified automobile glass technician immediately. Your safety may be at risk.
