The Afghanistan War, initiated on October 7, 2001, under Operation Enduring Freedom, aimed to dismantle Al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban from power. As of now, over 66% of Al-Qaeda's leadership has been eliminated, with significant American and coalition involvement resulting in 92,000 troops deployed. The conflict has led to approximately 1,400 US casualties and up to 35,000 civilian deaths. Although the Taliban regime was toppled early in the war, efforts continue to eliminate remaining Al-Qaeda forces amidst ongoing hostilities and challenging living conditions for soldiers.
