  5. WHAT IS SINGLE SPINE? • Single spine pay structure simply means having a single pay plan whereby employees in the same pay scale are paid equally

  7. AIMS OF THE SINGLE SPINE • 1. Place all public sector employees on one pay structure • 2. Ensure all jobs within same job value range are paid within same pay range – equity. • 3. Enable government to manage the wage bill more efficiently. • 4. Ensure compliance and ease of monitoring pay structures of self-accounting institutions. • 5. Minimize industrial-relation tensions related to low pay and distortions across the public service. • 6. Link pay to productivity
