  3. LECTURE NOTES READING NOTES Ch. 10, The Jackson years, 1829-32 p. 274: “People’s President” By 1828 almost all states had universal white male suffrage. Why: almost any man could own land by moving west – prop. qualif no longer made sense much greater % of pop. voted in 1828 Jackson ran as “common” man but was rich + war hero.   4. f Funding at par: In his Report on Public Credit, which Congress adopted, Hamilton proposed that the federal government would buy all state and foreign Revolutionary War debt at par, that is, at face value. He paid off debt to foreign countries ASAP to improve the credit of the U.S. Also, by rewarding wealthy Americans who held war debt or acquired state debt in anticipation of funding at par, he won their loyalty to the U.S. FLASH CARDS MUST STATE THE HISTORICAL SIGNFICANCE OF A KEY TERM OR PERSON TO KNOW, LIKE THE EXAMPLE ABOVE
