The Beginning of the Shang Dynasty • It was the first dynasty that we have clear evidence of. • The establishment of the dynasty is believed to be from the mid-18th to the mid-16th century B.C.E.
Achievements :D • Developed a refined writing system with over 2000 symbols • Began to use horse-drawn chariots • Created a 12 month calendar with 365 and ¼ days based on • the moon’s cycles • Developed the decimal system • Was the first dynasty to • unite a large amount of • china under its rule.
Major Leaders • Tang was the first king and overthrew the tyrannical rule of Jie of the Xia dynasty. • Di Xin was the last Shang king and was a tyrant that led others to overthrow the Shang.
Important Dates Events (._.) • Shang was established by King Tang in 1675 BC after overthrowing the tyrannical rule of Jie. • The Records of the Grand Historian states that the Shang Dynasty moved its capital six times. The final and most important move to Yin in 1350 BC led to the golden age of the dynasty.
Fails D: • Di Xin was the last Shang king and was a cruel tyrant. • The Zhou dynasty used the idea of Mandate of Heaven to justify the overthrow of the Shang dynasty. Zhou leaders claimed that the Shang emperors had become corrupt and unfit, so Heaven demanded their removal.
