  1. Organization and Implementation of a National Regulatory Programme for the Control of Radiation Sources Objectives and Scope

  2. Objective To assist IAEA Member States toestablish orimprove their national radiation safety infrastructure in order to implement the requirements of the Basic Safety Standards (Generic Safety Requirements Part 3 –GSR Part 3–)and thereby to: • ensure thesafety and securityof radiation sources; • prevent accidents and incidentsthat could give rise to deterministic radiation injuries; • minimize occupational and public radiation exposureby ensuring that radiation doses do not exceed regulated levels.

  3. Scope This training program describes those elements of anationalradiation safety infrastructurethat must be in place for the proper application of theBasic Safety Standardsto the control of radiation sources such as those used in: • medicine • industry • agriculture • research • education

  4. TheBasic Safety Standards(GSR Part 3) • establish basic requirements forprotection against the risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiationandfor thesafety of radiation sourcesthat may deliver such exposure. TheCode of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources • establish principles and objectives for ensuring the highest possible levels of safety and security of radioactive sources.
