  1. CALM BIG DECISIONS

  2. Calm Decision Making • Do Tornado activity!

  3. CALM • Can you think of some good choices that you have made in the past? • How did you feel about them? Why were they good? In the past, many important choices may have been made or influenced by your parents or guardians. However, you have reached a time in your life when you have more and more power and freedom to choose for yourself. Can you think of some bad choices that you have made in the past? Many of the choices you will make in the next few years, as you become more independent, will influence the rest of your life- for good and for bad.

  4. Calm Big Decisions The following seven steps to making good decisions are useful for working through big decisions like what to do after high school or when to leave home. They are also useful when you are confused about something. The following seven steps will help you to make better choices if you take the time to work through them.

  5. Calm Seven steps to making good decisions • Define the decision that you need to make. Be specific. • Brainstorm a list of all possible choices and alternatives. • Gather all the information that you can about each option. Information is power! • Analyze the short and long-term consequences of each alternative. Consider the pros and cons, your values and feelings, and the impact on others. • Make the decision. • Create a specific action plan and do it. Set some goals. • Evaluate whether it was a good decision or not.

  6. Calm Quick Decisions – The two-question method. There are times when you have to make quick decisions and do not have the luxury of working through the seven-step process. Seemingly everyday, spur of the moment decisions, like whether to take a particular call or go to a particular party, can have a great impact on your life; so take the time to stop and think about the following questions.

  7. Calm Quick Decisions • Is this a good choice? (is it the right thing to do?) • What might happen as a result of this decision?

  8. Calm As you consider these questions other things will come to mind such as: • Is it against my moral, values or beliefs? • What might the consequences be? • Why do I want to do this? Is it a good reason? • Will I regret this? • Are peers influencing me? • Am I doing it just for fun?
