  2. Entrepreneurship What does this mean? If we cannot define it how can we teach it to students K-12? The process of organizing, managing, and assuming the risks of a business or enterprise. What does this mean to you?

The Capital Region and Entrepreneurship • 2010 CEW Workshop – focus was entrepreneurship • 2008 Leadership Academy was “Career Development: Approaching it as an Entrepreneur” • Spring 2008 EitW: The panel featured entrepreneurs in Green fields • 2009 Leadership Academy featured the Murata Business Center • 2010 Leadership Academy: Featured I Need Solar and Dirty Dog Enterprises • 2010/11 EitW: Features I Need Solar (actually went to their facility), and the panel will have entrepreneurs on it

  7. 13.1 Career Awareness and Preparation 13.2 Career Acquisition 1 of 5 districts taught Interviewing Skills K-12; 3 of 5 in grade 12 No districts have a Career Portfolio K-12; 4 of 5 begin with 8th grade 1 of 5 districts develop Career Acquisition documents in grades 1-8; 4 of 5 do this by grade 10 1 of 5 districts teach students how to Research Careers before grade 8; 4 of 5 after grade 8 • 3 of 5 districts have a pretty comprehensive delivery K-12 in Assessing Abilities, Aptitudes, and Interests • Career Selection Influences are delivered in 5 of 5 district, but after 8th grade • Preparation for Careers are delivered in 5 of 5 districts, but after 8th grade • Career Plan Components are delivered in 4 of 5 districts after 8th grade

  8. 13.3 Career Retention and Advancement (Keeping a Job) 13.4 Entrepreneurship (Creating Jobs) Risks and Rewards is a concept of entrepreneurship addressed at some point in 3 of 5 districts Teaching the Character Traits of Entrepreneurs is addressed in 3 of the 5 districts The Creation of a Business Plan is developed in 3 of 5 districts; only 1 district does this prior to 8th grade This strand is the least developed K-12 ! • Developing Good Work Habits is addressed in 4 of 5 school districts before grade 8 • Developing Cooperation and Teamwork skills is ongoing in 3 of 5 districts from K-8 • Group Interaction skills are taught in 2 of 5 districts K-8; 3 others begin in grade 7-12 • Budgeting is only introduced in K-8 in 1 district; 3 of 5 teacher this concept from 8-12 • Workplace Changes are addressed in only 1 district K-8; 2 others address this 10-12 • The concept of Lifelong Learning is addressed in 1 district K-12; 3 others 10-12
