  2. Bake • To cook in a oven with dry heat.

  3. Baste • To put a liquid, such as melted butter or a sauce on top, while cooking.

  4. Boil • To cook until bubble rise to the surface.

  5. Broil • To cook with food very close to high heat source.

  6. Preheat • To turn on heat before.

  7. Scald • Pour boiling liquid over food or to cook just before boiling.

  8. Simmer • To reduce heat and continue to cook.

  9. Steam • To cook with the steam vapors of boiling water.

  10. Skim • Remove the top.

  11. Sauté • To cook in a small amount of fat.

  12. Alternate • Add a small amount of one item, then another.

  13. Beat • Quick mixing motion.

  14. Blend • To mix two or more ingredients to make one.

  15. Chop • To cut up.

  16. Core • To remove the center.

  17. Cream • To mix until smooth.

  18. Cube • To cut into squares

  19. Cut In • To mix shortening(fat) into flour.

  20. Dice • To cut into pieces ½” big.

  21. Dot • To scatter food items on another.

  22. Fold • Very gentle stirring.

  23. Grate • To cut food into thin, small pieces.

  24. Knead • To mix with your hands.

  25. Melt • To change from a solid to a liquid.

  26. Mince • To cut into very little pieces.

  27. Pare • To remove peel with a knife/tool.

  28. Peel • To remove the peel with your fingers.

  29. Quarter • To cut into four pieces.

  30. Slice • Cut into slabs.

  31. Shred • To cut into thin slice.

  32. Stir • Mix in a circular motion.

  33. Tear • To separate by pulling apart with your hands.

  34. Toss • To mix with a lifting motion.

  35. Whip • Beat quickly to add air.
