What We Do • Monitor compliance with the Common Assessment Plan (CAP) • www.cote.illinois.edu/about/governance/policies/CAP_Undergraduate.pdf • Criminal Background Check • Annual Bloodborne Pathogen Training • Mandated Reporter Training/Acknowledgement • GPA (content, professional education, UI, and overall) • Grades in content/professional education (C or better) • Safety Education Module • Student Teaching Agreement

  4. What We Do • Answer Certification Questions • Answer Endorsement Questions • Complete Final Audit for Certification

  5. Endorsements • Automatically qualified to teach in self-contained general education pre-K – grade 3 • Automatically given Early Childhood Special Education Approval (pre-k) • SPED 414, 465, EPSY 401, and SPED 438 or CI 422 built into program. • Does NOT cover Special Ed K-3 (need LBSI approval/endorsement for K-3)

  6. Endorsements (K-3) • Bilingual approval/endorsement • Requirements on Council website • English as a Second Language (C&I/DEIL) • Requirements on Council website • LBS I Endorsement (needed to work w/special needs grades K-3) • Six additional courses in SPED

  7. Foreign Language Endorsements K-4 • K-4: 18 hours in one foreign language or pass appropriate Foreign Language Content test (If you want to teach a foreign language at the middle grade or high school, come talk to us for requirements).

  8. Certificate/License • Moving to new system on July 1, 2013 • Illinois Professional Educator License

  9. Testing • No additional tests first year of program • Early Childhood content test • Must take/pass prior to student teaching (state law) • Assessment of Professional Teaching: Birth to Grade 3 or Non grade specific APT • Typically taken student teaching semester or on the same day content test is taken.

  10. Things To Know • If you change your name, change it in Banner and notify the Council • If you move, change your address in Banner. • Certification requirements are subject to change without notice.

  11. ISBE Rules • No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ may be used toward certification, endorsement, or approval • No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC or Pass/Fail may be used toward certification, endorsement or approval • AP credit may be used

  12. Criminal Background Check (fingerprinting) • Directions, forms, and links can be found under www.cote.illinois.edu and then, in the right column, “Criminal Background Check” • Must go through Accurate Biometrics • Office locations and times can be found at http://www.accuratebiometrics.com/fingerprint_Region_Map.asp • Be sure to use the COTE form http://www.cote.illinois.edu/fingerprintform.pdf • If you don’t hear that you are cleared within three weeks, contact us.
