  1. DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH

  2. DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH Development is improved human and ecological well-being expressed in such terms as: Economic growth Jobs Better shelter Health Ecological sustainability vernacular architecture gain from developmental approach: Design Aesthetic technology A developmental approach ask these questions: How is the vernacular influence by development process? How does it help achieve both a better environment and broader well-being?

  3. A DEVELPMENTAL VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE A developmental vernacular architecture uses The characteristics of vernacular architecture to achieve: Better shelter and settlement Broader development objectives It uses local cultural and material resources and it is: Small-scale Technologically Organizationally simple Inexpensive It’s planning can be Controlled by local communities Implanted by local builders It’s expresses the values and needs of local especially poorer

  4. A DEVELPMENTAL VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE It demonstrated continuity whit change: Remaining rooted in the past and the local, while incorporating the new and the external to meet contemporary needs. This characteristics can make it: Cost-effective Economically viable Labour intensive Job-creating Local resource using Local income generating Renewable resource using

  5. A DEVELPMENTAL VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE Fatty’s construction of new Gourna village(Egypt) in the mid 1940s was early expression of a developmental vernacular. Needing self-reliant development based on Local agriculture arts Crafts

  6. A DEVELPMENTAL VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE Buildings created by Architect working whit peasant Using local mud-brick Nubian vault dome Fathy focused on aesthetic and the architectural product to relative neglect of a participatory process and socio economic viability.

  7. A DEVELPMENTAL VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE From 1950 in India Laurie baker developed a vernacular based on Housing Settlement design Construction practice In the 1960 Dr Otto Koenigsberger (London) explored the developmental potential of vernacular architecture and it’s bioclimatic advantages. 1960 in to 1970 john C.Turner articulated the distinction between process and product. In the 1970 the developmental workshop group formulated a comprehensive approach in Egypt , Oman and Iran. In 1980 and in to 1990 the developmental approach continuous to be shaped by an increasing number of projects whit greater institutional support.

  8. Uses of vernacular architecture in the developmental process It can be explored whiten two developmental contexts: • To help stem socioeconomic and physical decline • caused by broader socioeconomic change. • To help meet the changing arising Aspirations • of communities experiencing rapid Improvements • in their socioeconomics condition. result developmental changes socioeconomic and physical decline of particular areas. Deterioration of the historic center of cities. Environmental degradation Natural disaster examples deforestation earthquake

  9. Uses of vernacular architecture in the developmental process Deterioration of the historic center of cities: • Rehabilitated and adapt to new uses appropriate • To the new socioeconomic conditions. • Selective vehicular access and pedestrianzation • careful Rehabilitation of old buildings and the • construction of new ones using vernacular styles, • forms, techniques . Environmental degradation: Eroding organic material’s resource base: Bamboo and timber Iron sheet, concrete and steel

  10. Uses of vernacular architecture in the developmental process The developmental vernacular response: • Re-establish organic-material’s resource • Modify the vernacular to reduce the use of scarce materials • Replace vernacular whit other vernacular methods Natural disaster: Making buildings disaster-resistant: By replacing the vernacular with expensive concrete and steel structures. By examining how the vernacular can be modified ,using improved traditional methods.

  11. Uses of vernacular architecture in the developmental process The challenge here is: How the vernacular can be improved to offer more cost-effectively Shelter , settlements and services that are at least that are comparable If not superior to “modern” alternatives. A new urban area may develop whit existence of: Strong urban tradition Transformable rural one It's easier to promote a developmental vernacular in the rural context.

  12. conclusion Vernacular architecture develop where there is: Strong tradition Effective program A supportive environment Much of research and action focused on: Finished product It’s design technology Neglected has been worked on the process of developing the rule of Sustainable vernacular including: The role of modern sociocultural demands An appropriate building materials and construction Industry Adequate organizational and financial methods Sportive policy environments

  13. conclusion A healthy developmental vernacular will be constantly evolving as condition around evolve, and as people continue to incorporate new designs, materials and technologies and financial and organization methods. the ongoing challenge is to nurture it’s evolution and effectively guide it.
