  1. ICARE Member Reports • National Institute on Aging (NIA) • NIA leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life. Mission is to: • Support and conduct genetic, biological, clinical, behavioral, social, and economic research related to the aging process, diseases and conditions associated with aging, and other special problems and needs of older Americans. • Foster the development of research and clinician scientists in aging. • Communicate information about aging and advances in research on aging to the scientific community, health care providers, and the public.

ICARE Member Reports: NIA • Areas of interest for epilepsy-related research • Dementias of aging: etiology, genetics, epidemiology, clinical studies of Alzheimer’s disease • Neurobiology of aging: receptors/channels, metabolism, neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, neurodegeneration; sleep and integrative neurobiology • Behavioral and systems neuroscience of aging: cognitive, emotional, sensory, and motor processes; co-morbidities • Resources available for shared use or other opportunities for collaboration • Scientific resources: aged rodent colonies and tissue bank; human and animal cell repository; human biospecimen collection • Alzheimer’s disease resources: • National Cell Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease (NCRAD) • National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) • Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI)
