  5. Rewiring? • Carr – the way I think has changed • Hayles – “brain’s synaptic connections are coevolving with an environment in which media consumption is a dominant factor” (192).

  6. “Power browse” • Carr – “new forms of ‘reading’ are emerging as users ‘power browse’ horizontally through titles, contents pages and abstracts going for quick wins” • Reading more, but different

Other Discussion Questions • With collections slowly shifting into digital databases as Weinberger describes with the Bettmann archives being uploaded by Corbis, is there still academic or cultural value in maintaining the original pictures? (Scott) • Are expert authorities going to become obsolete in the future since everyone will have the capability to find the information they specifically need? (Lacie) • What can be made of Carr’s argument that a greater reliance on technology dims an individual’s emotions and intelligence? (See his reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey) (Sarah M.)
