  1. Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Standards Update Doug Nebert December, 2006

  2. Activities • OWS-4 Testbed • Specification Updates • New Activities

  3. OGC Web Services Testbed (OWS-4) Threads: • Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) • Geo-Processing Workflow (GPW) • Geo Decision Support (GeoDSS) • Geo-Digital Rights Management (GeoDRM) • CAD/GIS/BIM Integration • OGC Location Services (OpenLS) • Compliance Testing (CITE)

  4. Results • Demonstration in December, integrating representations of facilities, buildings, and sensors in support of emergency decision support; based on requirements from New York City DoITT and EPA • Expected to include: • 56 applications supporting OGC specifications • 33 Interoperability Program Reports, some as prototypes of future specifications

  5. 2006 OGC Specification Updates • The Filter Encoding Implementation Specification 1.1 (FES) defines an XML encoding to express a combined spatial and attribute query for retrieving features from one or more geospatial databases. (Published) • The Web Feature Service Implementation Specification 1.1 (WFS) defines and updates interfaces for data access and manipulation operations on geographic features. (Published with corrigendum) • The Web Map Context Documents Implementation Specification 1.1 (WMC) defines how a map created using geospatial data from one or more map servers can be described in a portable document (Published) • Web Coverage Service 1.1 Specification provides filter encoded access to coverage (raster, surface) data (Draft)

  6. 2006 Application Profiles • ISO Metadata Application Profile of Catalogue Services (CS-W) (Being processed as draft Implementation Specification) • ebRIM Application Profile of Catalogue Services (CS-W) (Being processed as draft Implementation Specification) • FGDC Metadata Application Profile of Catalogue Services (CS-W) (Best Practices Paper) • Simple Features Application Profile of GML 3.1.1 • GML 3.1.1 Coordinate Referencing System (CRS) support

  7. Upcoming Specifications Following specifications are approved for Version “1.0” development: • Sensor Planning Service (SPS) • Sensor Observation Service (SOS) • Transducer Modeling Language (TransducerML) • Sensor Modeling Language (SensorML) • Web Processing Service (WPS)

  8. New Activities Interoperability Experiments recently announced for: • Geo-linking Service • Geolinked Data Access Service (GDAS) Request for public comment on: • Gazetteer Profile of WFS (as draft Implementation Spec) • Geospatial Digital Rights Management Reference Model (as OGC Abstract Topic Volume) Reference documents for these are on the www.opengeospatial.org website under Discussion Papers and Requests, respectively

  9. OGC participation on behalf of FGDC • Chairmanship of the Architecture WG • Chairmanship of the Catalogue Service WG • Elected member of the newly formed OGC Architecture Board (OAB) • FGDC has had Strategic Member recognition (member of SMAC)

  10. FGDC member opportunities • Members of OGC may participate in testbeds, pilots, interoperability experiments, spec development and preview. FGDC affiliation does not transfer. • Academic and local government members have very favorable membership terms • Federal Members: • Census Bureau • DHS • EPA • NGA • Army TEC • NOAA • USGS • GSA • NASA • FGDC
