    3. Terminology Motor vehicle includes trailer Trailer includes all vehicles that are designed to be drawn by a motor vehicle and runs on wheels Semi-trailer trailer with no front axle and at least 15% of the mass carried by the drawing vehicle

    4. Manufacturers responsibilities Must register with province Must comply with requirements of MIB Inspectorate SABS Must have all relevant legislation and SANS specifications Must build trailers in terms of specifications and homologation requirements

    5. Driving licences Confusion on licence codes and authorization of licence Difference between tare, GVM and GCM Difference between normal motor cars, minibuses and goods vehicles

    8. Operational Requirements: Brakes Up to 750 kg GVM: Tare of drawing vehicle must be double GVM of trailer 751 to 3500 kg GVM: Tare of drawing vehicle must be more or equal to GVM of trailer 3501 + kg GVM: Must have service brake and must be ABS brakes

    12. Loading and drawing Restriction on combinations 1 drawing vehicle and 2 trailers, not 2 drawing vehicles and 1 trailer Maximum length 22 metres maximum length Towing May not have passengers in trailer if speed exceeds 30 km/ph
