  2. Program Rationale • Entertainment technology is important to Hong Kong • Multimedia is highly interdisciplinary • Entertainment technology requires unique skills not covered in traditional engineering or media/design programs • Production processes

  3. Program Philosophies • It is possible to create a program that produces graduates with both technical and “creative design” skills • Jack of all trades, master of one • Learn by creating as part of a team • Learn to learn to apply

  4. Aims and Objectives • Develop graduates that have the necessary technical, design, and management skills to develop next-generation digital entertainment products • Electronic toys • Video games • Animation and media production • Combine both technical and creative

  5. Program Structure • Semester 1 – normalization and essentials • Semester 2 – specialization • 2 to 3 streams • Summer – masters project • Placement option • 3 month placement • Part-time masters project

  6. Curriculum Content – Semester 1 • Normalization course • Media design for “tech heads” • Software and hardware development for “foo-foo types” • Selection based upon first degree and entrance exam • Design presentation • Creativity and storytelling • Production processes

  7. Curriculum Content – Semester 2 • Digital media technology • Three electives • Selected from MIC, SD, EIE, COMP • Recommended streams for specialization • Application seminar • Project management • “Think tank”

  8. Curriculum Content – Summer and Beyond • Full-time masters dissertation/project • Creative and technical projects • Must lead to consultancy project, publication, or “screening” • Placement and part-time masters (6 months) • Mini “teaching company scheme” • Thesis related to work • Projects overseen by MIC, EIE, COMP, SD staff

  9. Teaching and Learning Methods • Taught classes combined with an “apprenticeship” methodology • Lectures • Project oriented assignments • Students work alongside faculty and training staff • Team-oriented projects • Local speakers and participation in local events
