  5. Impact Impact of INTAS Funding 1992-2002 • 165 million Euro have provided funding for: • 2555 projects • ~15000 teams of scientists INTAS has also funded: • 562 young scientists fellowships • 227 young scientists conference grants • 198 monitoring conferences • 21 infrastructure actions

Eligibility criteria Project: 2 NIS countries + 2 INTAS members Network: 3 NIS countries + 3 INTAS members Funding € 100,000 for grant duration Project: max. 25% total grant to INTAS members Network: max. 50% total grant to teams from INTAS members Duration 18 or 24 months Participation of AM, AZ, GE, KZ, KY, MO, TJ, TM & UZ is particularly encouraged

INTAS Call 2004 Position Sensitive Detectors (PSD)  Research projects and networks Scope:new developments in the field of PSD + impact on other scientific disciplines (i.e. astronomy, engineering, space, chemistry, medicine, biology & archeology); involve advance or novel methodologies; improve performances &/or scope of applications Eligibility criteria Project: 2 NIS countries + 2 INTAS members Network: 3 NIS countries + 3 INTAS members Funding € 100,000 for grant duration Project: max. 25% total grant to INTAS members Network: max. 50% total grant to teams from INTAS members Duration 18 or 24 months Participation of AM, AZ, GE, KZ, KY, MO, TJ, TM & UZ is particularly encouraged

INTAS Call 2004 Transforming societies  Research projects and networks Scope:economical, social & political transformations in Europe and the NIS, and address economic, social & political issues of Europe-wide concern. Address topics relevant to current policy concerns in Europe & NIS Eligibility criteria Project: 2 NIS countries + 2 INTAS members Network: 3 NIS countries + 3 INTAS members Funding € 100,000 for grant duration Project: max. 25% total grant to INTAS members Network: max. 50% total grant to teams from INTAS members Duration 18 or 24 months Participation of AM, AZ, GE, KZ, KY, MO, TJ, TM & UZ is particularly encouraged

INTAS Call 2004 with Airbus  Research projects only Scope : innovative experimental &/or theoretical research in aeronautics, and in particular on flight performance, material & structures, manufacturing Funding € 120,000 for grant duration max. 25% total grant to teams from INTAS members Eligibility criteria 2 NIS organisations + 2 INTAS members Duration 12, 18 or 24 months

INTAS Call 2004 with Kazakhstan  Research projects only Scope: innovative experimental &/or theoretical research in management of man-made pollution (all scientific fields) with the objective to promote reduction & prevention of such pollution, to improve ecological conditions & public health Eligibility criteria 2 NIS countries + 2 INTAS members Min. 1 team from Kazakhstan • Funding • € 150,000 for grant duration • max. 25% total grant to teams from INTAS members • Min. 75% total grant to NIS teams. And KZ team(s) gets min. 50% & max. 80% of this budget Duration 24, 30 or 36 months Example: 75% of €150,000=€112,500 for NIS teams  max. €90,000 for KZ teams

INTAS Call 2004 with Uzbekistan  Research projects only Scope: innovative experimental &/or theoretical research in sustainable development through use of local natural resources and new technologies. I.e. improve agricultural practices, fighting local diseases. Stimulate regional cooperation through analogous problems in neighboring countries • Funding • € 150,000 for grant duration • max. 25% total grant to teams from INTAS members • Min. 75% total grant to NIS teams. And UZ team(s) gets min. 50% & max. 80% of this budget Eligibility criteria 2 NIS countries + 2 INTAS members Min. 1 team from Uzbekistan Duration 24, 30 or 36 months Example: 75% of €150,000=€112,500 for NIS teams  max. €90,000 for UZ teams

PhD fellowships Post PhD fellowships Duration 2 years 2 years, 2 visits (4-8 months) 2 years, 2 visits (4-8 months) Funding Funding up to 16 400€ (300€ - 1200€) up to 20 400€ (400€ - 1500€) Working towards PhD & Continue for 2 years from Beginning of fellowship Be in full time research position at NIS organisation during the fellowship Eligibility Fellowships Objective encourage young NIS scientists to remain in science (advance their career, research in NIS, establish international contacts) + 35 years or less at deadline, citizen and permanent resident of NIS

Accompanying Measures - Summer Schools INTAS contact: Dr Gulnara Roll gulnara.roll@intas.be Objective Stimulate a larger participation of young scientists from the NIS in internationally acknowledged summer schools Duration 1-4 weeks taking place any time throughout the year Funding Average 2,500 € per young scientist with max. 25,000 € per year and per school. • Allowable costs • Travel costs • Costs for accommodation and subsistence • Summer school fees
