Geography • Between Europe and Asia and has control over the entrance to the Black Sea. • It’s as big as Texas with a population of; 71,892,808. • Coal, iron ore, copper, gold and limestone are some important natural resources.
Geography cont. • High central plateau • Narrow coastal plain, several mountain ranges. • Arat mountain, Suphan mountain range, and the Bey Daglari mountain range.
Climate • Average temperature of 31 degrees. • Annual precipitation 10-20 inches. • Stays dry most of the year. • Mountain ranges keep out most of the moisture from the ocean.
Vegetation • Limited Mediterranean vegetation • Also contains chestnut, pine, and oak trees but overcutting and grazing have prevented tree growth. • Covered with stony acidic soil which makes it poor for farming.
Native wildlife • one of the most biologically diverse countries in Europe. • Endangered species: The Dalmatian penguin, geese, and wild ducks.

Important historical events • August 30th- Victory Day • Kurban Bayrami- Sheep are slaughtered and the meat is given to the poor.
Economy • Large, middle-income country • Their economy grew from an average 6% per year from 2002-2007. • Oil- provides 43% of the total energy requirements. • Motor vehicles, petroleum products, electronics, industry, precious metal.
