  1. Lab Ex. 45 Pulse Rate & Blood Pressure

  2. Pulse palpation

  3. Pulse pressure • The pressure felt as the blood in the artery surges through the point that has pressure applied.

  4. Pulse Points

  5. Pulse points

  6. Popliteal artery

  7. Posterior tibial artery

  8. Dorsalis pedis artery

  9. Blood pressure

  10. Sphygmomanometer

  11. Systolic pressure • High Pressure due to ventricular contraction • Ex. 120 mmH

  12. Diastolic pressure • Low pressure due to ventricular relaxation • Ex. 80 mmHg

  13. Sounds of Korotkoff • The sounds heard through the stethoscope while taking blood pressure. • These are due to systolic pressure pushing blood past the cuff.

  14. Stethoscope

  15. Auscultation • The process of using the stethoscope to listen to each heart valve individually.

  16. Murmur • A swooshing sound produced by the incomplete closing of a heart valve.

  17. Cardiac cycle • The pattern formed by the altering pattern of atrial and ventricular contractions and relaxations.

  18. BP = CO X PR • The formula to calculate Blood Pressure.

  19. 120/80 • Normal Blood Pressure

  20. Effects of exercise • Exercise increases Blood pressure.

  21. Next: Lab Ex. 42 & 43 Cardiac Cycle
