This Grade 10 Honors English course is a comprehensive survey of British Literature, exploring diverse works from various authors and genres. Students will analyze significant themes that reflect the human experience while preparing for the MCAS English Language Arts Exam, essential for graduation. Our curriculum emphasizes vocabulary development, formal essay writing, reading comprehension, and oral presentation skills. Collaborative and independent work is encouraged to cultivate necessary skills for future academic endeavors. Regular homework, quizzes, and extra credit opportunities are included.

Grade 10 English Honors Welcome to Parent Information Night
Course Overview • English 10 Honors is survey of British Literature. • Covers works from various authors in a variety of genres. • We will examine many different themes that highlight the human experience and span the history of the English language.
Course Overview • The Grade 10 MCAS English Language Arts Exam is a graduation requirement. • It is my goal to instill a solid foundation that will prepare students for success both on the MCAS exam and in their future ELA classes. • Vocabulary, formal essay writing, and practice testing for both the MCAS and PSAT tests. • Preparation will also consist of reading comprehension and writing skills, as well as communication, preparation, and oral presentation skills.
Course Overview • Students are expected and encouraged to work both independently and collaboratively to exercise necessary skills for future endeavors. • It is my goal, and that of the school’s, to prepare our students for whatever paths they may take.
Grading Policy • Quarterly grades are determined by the division of total points earned by the number of total possible points. • Homework/Class work Assignments (10 -25 pts each) • 4-6 Quizzes, Rough Drafts, Etc. (25-50 pts each) • 3-4 Unit Tests, Essays, Projects, Etc. (50-100 pts each)
Homework • Students will have nightly homework assignments that consist of reading and/or writing tasks. • They will also receive long-term assignments that may be worked on both in and out of class. • Parents and students can check on nightly homework and long-term assignments by logging on to the following website:

Extra Credit • Extra credit is available, in various forms, throughout the quarter. • Students should see me and I will work with them to generate an assignment that is worthy of the credit.
