  2. Program overview • The digitization program of Local History Collections was introduced in Public library “Vladislav Petkovic Dis” in 2006. • It has been developed mostly relying on internal resources • Two main aims of the program: • Preservation • Accessibility

  3. Digital Library • 1st version in 2006 • Completely new framework was build at the end of 2007 (using freelance programmer) • Features: • MySQL, PHP architecture • Metadata • Searchable keywords, titles and authors • OCR and full-text search for selected publ.

  4. Digitization of “The Voice of Chachak” • The most important newspaper in Chachak • The biggest collection, comprises more then 50 years and several dozens of thousands of digital documents (1932-1995) • Large formats (>A3) • Most of the collection was microfilmed (NBS), some years must be digitized with digital camera due to poor condition of the microfilm

  5. Technical aspects • Scanned and microfilmed materials (after processing in software for image manipulation) is preserved in TIFF format, 300 dpi (Master copy) • JPEG format for Internet usage • Digital Camera (8MP, 12x optical zoom) • Unique database record for every digital document

  6. Browsing and searching the collection • Users could browse every number separately • For every page there are keywords, generated from the titles and content of the page • The whole collection is searchable by keywords, regardless if Latin or Cyrillic letters are used
