  4. What was the outcome? - The capital, Sarajevo was attacked and over 3,500 children and civilians were hurt - Mass shootings occured similar to Nazi’s, forced repopulation, and confinement in concentration camps -Serbs in bosnia freely committed genocide against the Muslims -Attacks in small cities lead to international news & military intervention against the Serbs -NATO demanded the Serbs withdrew from sarajevo -Over 200,000 muslims were murdered, 20,000 missing, and 2,000,000 became refugees.

  5. BOSNIAN GENOCIDE -Bosnia emerged from the break-up of yugoslavia, a multicultural country created after World War 1 by the victorious Western Allies. Yugoslavia was composed of ethnic and religious groups that had been historical rivals, even bitter enemies, including the Serbs, Croats, and ethnic Albanians. -Tito was a communist and a strong leader who had ties with the Soviet Union and United States. He kept financial assistance and other aid from both. After his death in 1980 and without his strong leadership, Yugoslavia quickly plunged into political and economic chaos. - Slobodan Milosevic was also a communist who turned to nationalism and religious hatred to gain power. He began by inflaming long-standing tensions between Serbs and Muslims in the independent province of Kosovo. The Christians felt mistreated. - In April 1992, the U.S and European Community chose to recognize the independence of Bosnia and let it be independent. Milosevic responded to Bosnia's declaration of independence by attacking Sarajevo.
