Why use the ADDIE Model • The ADDIE model is one of the most widely used models in instructional design. • The ADDIE model creates a virtual roadmap for a project. • Each phase serves an important purpose to the success of the project. • While evaluate is listed as the last phase, each phase is being evaluated throughout the entire process.

  4. Analyze • The analysis phase can be considered the most important phase. • “The first phase of any content development process should comprise Analysis. Analysis, in the context of content development, usually means gathering audience and task-related information and classifying it so that it could be used to make content more relevant and effective.”

Analysis • In order for Analysis to be successful, the analysis should identify the following: • The need (is there a specific need for this to be done) • The goal ( was is the goal or objective of this training, and how will it be met) • The audience ( what time of people will you be working with, and what are characteristics or behaviors that are in need to be aware of.

  6. Design • The design phase comes after analysis where the information gathered is put together. • After the evaluation of the Analysis phase, the design phase creates the plan and the outline of the performance objectives.

  7. Development • Once the content is prepared and has been evaluated in the design phase, then it is ready to be developed. • “During the development phase, curriculum developers create a sample, develop the actual course materials, and conduct a run-through. ”

Implementation • With the content developed and evaluated, it is now ready to be implemented. • With everything put together, the intended group, (students, employees, etc.) receives the instruction and the plan is now set forward into action. • Evaluation is critical throughout the implementation process since it should be determined what is successful/unsuccessful, if contented needs to be added or removed, or what can be done to improve the entire process.

  9. Evaluation • Although listed as the 5th phase, evaluation should be consistently done during each phase to ensure project successfulness. • Questions should be asked to determine if it will continue to be successful going forward:

  10. Evaluation • Important questions to ask: • Did the lesson work? • Was the audience able to reach the goals or objectives set forth in the instruction? • Was the instruction effective and what improvements can be made.

  11. Conclusion • The ADDIE model is a popular model for use in instructional design. The content each phase provides can be adapted and molded in a way that would make each project successful. • Using the ADDIE model as your guide will ensure that for each project that is being worked on, there is a phase along with an evaluation that will help ensure the success of the project.
