  1. ADDIE Instructional Design Process By: Christie Herrera Dr. Butler Fall 2013

  2. What is ADDIE? ADDIE is a five step process that trainers and educators can use to prepare successful and efficient instruction. The ADDIE model has five phases: • A- Analysis • D- Design • D- Development • I- Implementation • E- Evaluation The five phases do not have to occur in a strict order.   7. Phase 1: Analysis The Analysis phase is the first and most important part of this process. In this stage the instructor should: • Target your audience. • Recognize the issue. • Develop goals and objectives for instruction. • Understand the needs of the audience. • Figure out how much knowledge the audience has on the topic. • Create a plan on how to deliver instruction. Ask yourself: • Who is my audience? • What do they already know? • What do you need to show them? • Why am I explaining this? • How much time will be allowed to complete projects? http://www.proginosko.com/2013/01/the-most-important-question/

  8. Phase 2: Design This is a creative planning phase that allows you to think like the audience. Develop a plan on how to teach the audience based on the information you gained in the previous phase. Your plan should be specific. Some important steps to take in this phase is to: • Create your training outline. • Create easy flowing objectives and topics. • Figure out the types of materials will you use. • Decide on how to measure mastery. • Create a storyboard.   9. Phase 3: Development In this phase, you will bring your design ideas to life. This part of the process is mainly figuring out which materials and tools will benefit your instruction. What handouts, activities, notes, or videos you will use? Make sure your information is not repetitive. Develop a schedule to work with. Test out what your project.   10. Phase 4: Implementation This is the delivery phase.   11. Phase 5: Evaluation The evaluation phase provides the instructor with feedback about the training. This information is useful to the instructor so they can correct and adjust what did not work. Throughout the entire ADDIE process, evaluation is occurring. Formative evaluation is used throughout ADDIE to help the instructor determine the organization of each phase. Summative evaluation is when the instructor collects data and input from the audience to determine mastery of goals.   12. Summary ADDIE is a very popular tool that trainers and instructors use to increase their instruction. The name ADDIE stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implement, and Evaluate. As a future educator, I believe this design will help me prepare my instruction with ease.
